If you haven't already checked the results, we're delighted to say that we a great open to the 2007 on the National cicuit at Silverstone yesterday, after spending a lot of time over the winter trying to find a better performance out of the car, our hard work paid off with 7th on the grid & then a podium finish with 3rd. We had a few problems during qualifying and only completed around 5 laps, luckily this was enough time to get a decent place on the grid. With the problem cured for the race James managed to convert 7th on the grid to 3rd over the finish line.

So we were at Rockingham at the weekend, with more than our fair share of problems again, it appears that during testing the distributer timing slipped causing the engine to lose power & overheat. We carried out a few test which led us to beleive there was nothing more sinister then the timing that needed correcting. During qualifying the engine overheated after half a lap, chucking antifreeze all over the track which I then span on, finishing up an such a spot on a hair pin that the session had to be red flagged until the car was removed, which luckily happened very quikcly. We changed the head gasket before the race

Things aren't getting much better this season, during the first race at the double header at Brands a kamikaze overtaking move carried out by a certain silver car, left our car fatally damaged, forcing us to change engines between races. Unfortunately time got the better of us, and with help from fellow mini Se7en driver Andy Ruthven (retired due to engine problems) we were unable to get the car on to the grid for the second race. Just goes to show how someone else bad driving can wreck a whole weekends racing, thanks!

With Spa only a couple of weeks away we have managed to iron out a few problems which we encountered at Brands & Castle Combe, but unfortunately have run out of time for some other important jobs which need done. The brake problem which we suffered at Brands Hatch was rectified before the 2 race of the weekend at Castle Combe, we had an issue with the engine not revving as it should during qualifying as Castle Combe which we managed to fix for the race. We desperately need to get on a rolling road as we have recently replaced the dizzy (following probs at Brands) and we also think that the carb may be running lean at high revs. We will be unable to get on the rollers before Spa but hope to squeeze in some time before the next round at Silverstone. We are also concerned with the allignment of the chassis following some tests at Brands, we need to look into this further with the possibility of getting the shell on a jig in the near future.

We are now gearing up for our first race of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend (Sat & Sun), this will be round 2 of the Dunlop Mini Se7en challenge, closely followed by Castle Combe (round 3) which will take place on bank holiday Monday. We paid a visit to Lynx AE at the weekend to get some last minte suspension tweaking carried out. With only a few loose ends to tie up on the car before qualifying at 3pm on Saturday, we're pretty much prepared for the 2006 season, fingers crossed

We have entered a round of the "Saloon Cars Challenge" at Brands Hatch on Sunday 19th March and willbe racing in the under 1400cc class. This is an ideal opportunity to test the car set-up in race conditions and be able to compare lap times with personal bests & the Mini Se7en lap record and basically just to get back into things. We can then carry out any final tweaks before our first Mini Se7en race.

Today was the Mini Se7en Racing Club AGM at Daventry, this is where club members get together to vote on important club matters such as the election of comittee members and for any changes to regulations etc etc.

We have booked some testing at Teesside Autodrome, as the car hasn't been on the track since the begining of September last year, we want a shake down just to check things over and make sure all is well. Our engine builder came to visit today and the oil leak was fixed, it turned out to be a cracked timing cover which we have replaced.

Time is catching up with us again as we prepare for the start of the 2006 season, we are having issues with our engine which was rebuilt over the winter which is frustrating more than anything as we just want to get on now. Hopefully we should be sorted within a week and ready to go testing, which is also troublesome when it comes to finding a venue and a date which is convenient (fitting round work etc). As we will be missing the first round at Snetterton due to a 3 week holiday to Australia, we are desperate to get some testing in soon so we can hit the ground running at round 2 at Brands Hatch. The tseting is just for a shake down following the winter period really, we replaced the rear wheel bearings at the weekend and had an oil leak to deal with and still have a few loose ends to tie up before we start racing. We will try and keep the site as up to date as we can (time allowing) so keep checking back

We've had our ups and downs so far this season, starting with a podium finish was always going to be hard to follow. We thought we had left our mechanical gremlins behind, but unfortunately, they have returned with a vengance this season. The 2nd round was at Castle combe, with another top 10 qualifying position we were ready to get more points, after suffering a spin during the chaos around Quarry on the first lap, we fell back to last place, but managed to claw back up to 6th to bag another 15 points. At Snetterton, the 3rd round, we were suffering with a recurring rear brake problem, which contributed to an accident at the Esses during qualifying. Only to retire during the race after a clutch strap snapped, potentially damaging the crank. Luckily, we later found that this was not the case and that the remainder of the engine escaped undamaged. After an overdue engine rebuild, we ventured to Croix en Ternois in France for a double header, we managed another good qualifying position of 6th. With only 4 laps remaining of the race, we retired in smoke as the gearbox selecter quadrant gave up, with fragments being shot through the sump, expensive. We got the gearbox changed overnight ready for the 2nd race the next day, this time to retire of an unknown electrical problem which stopped the car in it's tracks.

Unable to determine the problem and with only a week before Brands, we replaced, the ignition system and fuel pump. This seemed to pay off and the engine was running great as we headed out for qualifying at Brands, only to return dissapointed at the handling of the car resulting in a poor qualifying position. We decided to make some alterations to the rear suspension setup, when we discovered that the nearside adjustable camber bracket was damaged. This was replaced and the car set up as best as possible, there still appeared to be a problem with that corner, but due to time restraints, we had to make do with what we had done. After finishing the race in 12th position, we had time to check the car more thouroughly and have discovered further problems with the rear near side suspension. After missing Thruxton (20-21 Aug) due to work comitments, the car has been thoroughly checked over, we discovered further problems with the rear near side suspension which have been corrected and we are now ready to race at Rockingham the weekend of 3rd & 4th September, see you there.
